Fort Myers
On August 28 Fowler White Boggs P.A. the Lee County Government, The City of Fort Myers and Florida Gulf Coast University are hosting a symposium at the Harborside Events Center in downtown Fort Myers, Florida where a group of well-known speakers, including current DCA Secretary Tom Pelham, former DCA Secretary and Fowler White shareholder Linda Shelley, University of Florida Emeritus professor of law Jim Nicholas and others, will be joining Fowler White’s Andrea Zelman and Michael Ciccarone in discussing how recent social, legal, economic and policy changes have changed the development paradigm in Lee County and elsewhere in ways that will require property owners, developers, realtors, lenders, investors, builders, land use lawyers, planners, transportation consultants, local government officials, and the average person to decide whether the form of development which has prevailed since the end of World War Two is still viable and, if it is not, what will replace it.
The symposium is designed to get community leaders and others to start thinking and planning ahead for the best ways to accommodate and profit from these changes, which are expected to be dramatic, unavoidable, and if handled correctly, beneficial. The speakers will explain very recent state and federal regulatory changes which will alter how local governments administer growth-driven public services and offer predictions of more changes which are expected to come. This will be a “must attend” event for everyone working, directly and indirectly, in land development and its regulation.
